Artist statement: Old Sturbridge Village is a photographers dream for some incredible photo opportunities. I was particularly inspired by the angles, colors, shapes and textures inside the pottery house. The light surrounding the girl at the pottery wheel just seemed to illuminate a serene dreamy yet classic scene.

Artist statement: I paint in oils, mostly from observation, using the Direct Painting method, leaving deliberate brushstrokes as evidence of my process and part of the final statement. Searching leads to a series of discoveries translating into line, shape, value and color. I squint to reduce information, to see relationships in color and value, and to decide what can be left out, and what is essential to the structure. The figure is the primary genre in my work- often dear subjects of family or friends, relat

Artist statement: It's difficult to go to a place like Death Valley Nat'l Park & take a photograph no one has seen before. I arrived at Zabriskie Point a few minutes before sunrise & was as taken by the sight unfolding before me as I was with the multitudes of minivans, cameras & tripods. It was hard to plant yourself anywhere without getting in someone's way. One of the pleasures I derive from infrared photography is the chance that, even if I've taken a photo of an iconic location, the image will be unique.

Artist statement: I believe Anne's Lunch was the name of this neighborhood coffee spot. I decided to paint this counter after visiting it with my Dad. I went on to do a series of diner/restaurant paintings because of the warm feelings when having breakfast in a place like this with good company. It doesn't get any better!

Simone Scholes
$375.00
Fine Art - First Prize
Selected for Exhibition
Artist statement: Simone’s loosely rendered paintings are figure studies with an evident emphasis on capturing how light reflects off the subject. Whilst the subjects have the necessity of detail to their faces to capture a true likeness, the remainder holds looser brush strokes capturing just the essentials details. She believes you shouldn’t need to know the person to be captivated by it. It should strike a familiar chord. It should convey an aspect of the human condition that we all recognize.

Artist statement: I utilize only available light in my photos to capture textures, colors, and patterns in ordinary things. The inspiration for my photographs comes from practicing mindfulness in my everyday life. I hope my work encourages all of us to slow down, be present, and notice the quiet details that might otherwise by missed in the hustle of our busy lives.

Fine Art - Third Prize

Artist statement: When I begin a new picture my first interest is the creation of a particular expression of color and light. That primary motive eventually grows into the content of the painting. I may like a certain scene or a certain light and will begin with that. I may want to paint colors that are close in value and that will be the origin of the picture, etc. My paintings begin as an action on my part but eventually become a dialogue of content.

Maryann Amodeo
$600.00

Artist statement: I began painting a few years ago. At that time, I had the feeling that I had been "color deprived" for many years. I felt the need to use lots and lots of color, the brighter the better. Color energized me and lifted my spirits. Now, I work to moderate the color in my paintings so it will energize the viewer without overwhelming them.

Artist statement: I was feeling very free in my painting process when I worked on this piece which is less constrained than some of my other work. I hope the viewer finds the bouquet cheerful, energizing and unique. I have been trying to paint more from my heart and less from my head and believe I accomplished that here.

Melting Snow
Maryann Amodeo
$650.00

Artist statement: I have always loved painting trees -- I find them infinitely fascinating since no two are exactly alike. In this painting, in addition to the trees, I paid special attention to the snow. I wanted to create a sense of melting snow. The painting has some subtle qualities that invite the viewer to a second look.

Maryann Amodeo
$700.00

Artist statement: I painted this in a lighthearted spirit, using yellow to convey a sunshiny atmosphere. A mass of daisies was fun to imagine, and as I painted them, they seemed almost animated. I also enjoyed doing the border of the blossoms-- seeking ways to soften the edges and complement the flowers.
