Artist statement: This solid wall of rock, with fallen segments, presented an interesting arrangement of abstract angular shapes and contrasting warm and cool colors. The soft greens in the background formed a perfect foil for the rust and blue-gray of the rocks, as well as a nice contrast in texture; and the clear, bright blue sky was the ideal compliment for the orange tones of the cliff.

Artist statement: The strong shadows on this Essex house and the crisp picket fence made a compelling combination that contrasts precise, rigid forms with freely rendered, organic ones that suggest motion; and the subject was a classic all-American one, at once iconic and inviting.
