Artist statement: This piece is an illustration I used in my novel A Wound Like Lapis Lazuli. In this scene, a painter is painting the ceiling of a temple that is being flooded by an angry goddess. Water reaches up towards the painter, but has not yet reached where she is on the scaffolding. Most of the piece is done in pen, but the water is black watercolor.

Artist statement: Through my experiences, living and growing as a person and most especially as a mother and now grandmother, I have found particular enjoyment in reading to the children in my life. I have found that my pictures often tell me a story with the simplicity of a child’s heart. My paintings are small stories that speak to me. Sometimes they are just questions that I don’t have answers to.

Artist statement: I took a behind-the-scenes tour of abandoned buildings at Ellis Island that was strictly for photographers. A great experience with some great photo opportunities -- like this walkway inside an old hospital building where nature was starting to take over.
