Artist statement: This newborn turtle was discovered in the driveway while on a walk with our dog. It was the first spring day that actually felt like spring had arrived! The turtle blended into the surroundings, as it was still covered with sand from the ground. The quarter shows the scale of this tiny turtle!

Artist statement: Painted on location on a beautiful early summer day. I try to capture a fresh immediate impression of what I see. I look for places where man and nature interact in an interesting way; where trees, shrubs, and lawns play agaist houses and cars. Their interplay creates a variety of colors, shapes and textures.

Artist statement: I have always been fascinated by the sun. It is truly one of God’s most beautiful creations. With its simple yet so complex appearance, it can be a very good subject for a painter. My name is Juliana Haugli, and I am a 13 year old artist who enjoys cartooning and painting alike. This painting blends together my love for sunsets and the Adirondack mountains. I tend to draw in pencil more often, but I wanted to create something that was different from my usual small detailed art-style.

Artist statement: I graduated from Western Michigan University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design and a minor in Arts (magna cum laude, Presidential Scholar). I enjoy how unpredictable watercolor can be, how forgiving and yet, very challenging it is. I also enjoy nature and wildlife, whether observing it or absorbed in it. Painting nature in watercolor brings both fluidity and randomness together in a rewarding and gratifying way.
